On August 5th, a group of twenty-three including SCIA members, registered translators and others visited the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and Global Plaza at JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) in Tokyo to deepen and broaden their knowledge on one of the Asian countries and global issues
At the Embassy Mr. Ricky Suhendar, Counsellor, and his staff expressed their warm welcome and lead the group to a beautiful conference room where they made a presentation on all about Indonesia including history, culture, major industry, ecomomy, and etc. The presentation was made in Indonesian with excellent interpretation into Japanese. After the presentation, the group was invited to a tasty Indonesian lunch, which was a nice surprize for the visiting group. After exchanging small gifts, the group bid farewell to the Embassy staff and proceeded to the next site, JICA
JICA encourages Japanese people to be more interested and more involved in international cooperation activities. SCIA group visited JICA Global Plaza this time.
The group spent 45 minutes in the Virtual Global Experience Area, and learned about different cultures of other countries in the world, as well as global issues such as poverty, hunger and climate change through an interactive display. Later, the group had an hour session with Ms. Atsuko Takai, who worked as art teacher in Butan as JOVCs (Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers) for 2 years.
